Missing teeth not only appear unsightly, but they are also the reason of disorders e.g. of chewing function. Contemporary prosthodontics provides a variety of modern options for replacing missing teeth and also restoring teeth. Taking advantage from its benefits is worthwhile, as it is prosthodontics (plus orthodontics and dental surgery in some cases) that may provide us with a healthy, beautiful smile that should become our showcase.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT…
- Until recently, prosthetic restorations were mainly associated with dentures, which could be distinguished from natural teeth with the naked eye. Currently, most of the suggested restorations and dentures are actually invisible.
- New technologies and materials in most cases enable patients’ treatment with permanent restorations. They include veneers, inlays, crowns, bridges and implants.
- The best material, neutral to oral cavity tissues is porcelain. If the prosthetic construction is more extended and building it entirely with porcelain would be too weak, a biocompatible, extremely aesthetic and durable zirconium oxide is used. More and more often it replaces gold or other dental alloys. In such cases CAD/CAM technology is used to create a restoration.
